The EDGE Certification Process
From pre-assessment to final certificate: who does what, and how long it takes.
Pre-assessment (1 week)
We receive the architectural drawings, mechanical/electrical design and specification. We set up the base model in the EDGE App, calculate the energy/water/materials savings of the current design and report the measures needed to reach the target level, with their cost impact.
Design integration (2–4 weeks)
Measures are incorporated into the project: insulation thicknesses, glazing properties, HVAC equipment efficiencies, fixture flow rates, material choices. Meetings are held with the design team; technical datasheets are collected.
Preliminary certificate — Design stage (4 weeks)
EDGE App application, documentation package and EDGE Auditor design review. On approval by the certification body (GBCI/SGS), a Preliminary EDGE Certificate is issued. This document is proof of design compliance for the lender and the contracting authority.
Site follow-up (throughout construction)
We document the delivery of approved materials and equipment to site with photos, delivery notes and test reports. If anything changes, we update the model and propose alternative measures.
Final certificate — Post-construction (4 weeks)
EDGE Auditor site audit; submission of the evidence package to the certification body; delivery of the Final EDGE Certificate. The certificate does not expire and is published publicly in the EDGE App.
What we need from you
- Architectural construction drawings (plans, sections, elevations, details), area calculations
- Mechanical and electrical drawings, equipment lists and technical datasheets
- Material schedule; insulation, glazing, window frame and fixture datasheets
- During construction: monthly photo set and delivery notes (we provide the template)
Factors affecting duration and cost
Getting involved early significantly reduces duration and cost. Certification is also possible for projects where the shell construction is complete; however, the remaining options for the energy target are limited to HVAC, lighting and fixtures.
